With the winter chill starting to set in, it is no surprise that so many are ready to get out and hit the powder. Before getting out there though, it is pertinent that you ensure your Snowmobile is ready and safe. These Snowmobile maintenance tips will help you make sure everything is ready to go before you hit the fresh powder.

Service Your Chains

The chains on your snowmobile should be properly lubed and adjusted to manufacturers specifications prior to heading out for a day of fun. If you have left your winter toy sit in storage for the warmer months, it is time to make sure everything is copacetic. Your parts should be bathed in oil to keep everything in cool working order. Annually, you will need to drain and change this oil. This will keep your snowmobile in tip top condition year after year.

How is Your clutch?

Your clutch is a pretty important piece of your snowmobile. It is what gets power to the ground to make your vehicle get going! To make sure your clutch hooks up correctly, it is important that you properly maintain it. One thing you can do it take a scrubby pad and scour the sheaves to make sure any glaze is removed. Work from the center out, and once you are don, reinstall your belt and set the tension according to your manufacturer’s settings.

Check Your Bolts

No one wants loose bolts on their snowmobile. So after being in storage for the Summer, you will want to go over your sled with a wrench and make sure everything is tightened properly and ready to come out for the winter.

Replace Carbides

The last think you want is to be riding through the woods on thin carbides and cause a wreck. These are super easy to replace and can be picked up at any part’s store. Seriously, go grab some, replace them and save yourself some potential medical bills.

Inspect Your Exhaust

Last but not least, you want to inspect your exhaust. This area of your sled is prone to issues, so it is important to make sure everything is clean and not covered with an oily sticky mess. Usually, if you see a sticky mess there is something loose. Making sure everything is maintained will save you a lot of headaches later on.

So if you are excited to hit the fresh powder this winter, go ahead and give your sled a good once over to make sure you don’t run into any issues when you are out in top of a mountain!
