South End of North Shore
Hit the South end of North shore from Duluth to Silver Bay where you’ll find there are plenty of areas to get off the main drag and explore. You’ll want to park at the Martin Road lot on the Northern edge of Duluth’s city limits to experience the entire trail. Along the way you will pass Island Lake Inn where local riders hang out and have lunch. Pass through the French and Cloquet River to get some good scenic views of the bridges and take some selfies with friends!
The Middle of North Shore
From Silver Bay to Lutsen, you will hit the 85-mile Tomahawk Trail which heads towards Ely. This trail has nice loops that wind past inland lakes and Pat Boyle State Forest. Consider parking your snowmobiles outside the popular Trestle Inn, where you and your friends can stop and enjoy bites, drinks and good company.
North End or North Shore
Continue your adventure up the Gunflint trails and Forrest hills between the Gunflint and Grand Portage. Expressway sites on this 130 mile ride are home to elusive wildlife including lynx, wolves, bobcats, snowy owls and moose. Often known as the most back-country trail in the state, you’ll want to make sure there’s enough fuel in the snowmobiles to explore!
